The Scarborough Outrigger Canoe Club recently showcased its prowess at the prestigious IVF Va’a World Elite and Club Sprint Championship 2024, which ran from August 13th to 24th in the scenic locale of Hilo, Hawai’i. This year, the team proudly carried the banner of Dindas Australia, whose support as a sponsor was instrumental in their journey to the international stage.
Preparation for this world-class event began nine months prior, with rigorous training sessions designed to hone the athletes’ skills and stamina. Under the expert guidance of their coach, who is also a dedicated Yard Supervisor at Dindas Australia, the team forged ahead with determination and resilience.
Despite tough competition from Tahiti, Hawai’i, and New Zealand, the Scarborough team showed their strength. In the V12 500-meter race, they competed as a cohesive unit but were edged out in the semi-finals. The 1000-meter race tested their agility and strategy, with Team 1 finishing fifth and Team 2 tenth after clocking the fastest heat. Challenging weather conditions affected the 500-meter race; Team 1 reached the semi-finals, finishing fifth, while Team 2 was unfortunately eliminated.
